CO Gun Groups, Legal marijuana users want concealed carry permits – MaryJNews
MaryJNews – Denver: Let legal Colorado marijuana users get their concealed handgun permit. A Colorado man, Edgar Antillon, co-founder of Guns for Everyone out of Westminster, Colorado has filed a proposed ballot measure to allow marijuana users to possess a concealed weapons permit. The County Sheriffs of Colorado concealed handgun permit application currently asks if you are an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance. Many people in Colorado do not see why legal recreational and medical marijuana can’t coexist with concealed carry permits.
The opening to change the concealed permit restrictions became available when Coloradans voted to legalize medical marijuana in 2000 and recreational marijuana for adults in 2012. Now it is no longer clear what defines the type of user by state law as unlawful. There is speculation that according to Federal law, the entire state of Colorado is in violation.
“Marijuana is legal in Colorado, and the people voted to regulate it like alcohol,” said Isaac Chase, the co-founder of Antillon’s Colorado Campaign for Equal Gun Rights. “Consumers of alcohol are allowed to conceal, so should marijuana users.” Patients that legally obtain pharmaceuticals are not discriminated against either.
Give legal Colorado marijuana users the option to have concealed carry permits is the stance of the Colorado gun groups:
The initiative needs 86,105 signatures to make it on the ballot.
