Jordan Lyles pitches perfect through seven, Padres beat Rockies 4-0 | Mile High Sports

In Tuesday’s game, Jordan Lyles was very nearly perfect. He put away every Rockies batter he faced until Trevor Story in the eighth inning. Lyles, who spent some time with the Rockies organization, probably got some satisfaction throwing the second-best game in Padres history. Lyles was so close to the Padres’ first perfect game, but it was impressive nonetheless. The Padres had some offense to back up Lyles, and despite some walks later in the game, the Rockies, ahem, Ian Desmond, could not follow through. The Rockies are still trying to find their flow, and hopefully they have some luck in San Francisco.

The first inning continues to be kryptonite for Rockies’ right-hander Germán Màrquez | Denver Post ($)

Rockies pitching has been a roller coaster like the rest of the team, but Germán Márquez in the first inning is definitely one of the lows for the Rockies. He has given up four home runs and walked eight in the first innings of his nine games. Bud Black admits he’s not sure how to fix this problem. Some pitchers just have a hard time warming up and starting games. With the hardships the offense has had, the pitching and the defense really need to be able to deliver. Márquez needs to figure out his issues in the first inning to help his team.
