The incident happened about 10:50 a.m. in the 7800 block of Smith Road, just off Quebec Street and Interstate 70. Police said they were called about a man wanted on a warrant and officers encountered him in the parking lot. A struggle ensued and at least one officer used a pepper spray before a shot was fired, said Raquel Lopez, a Denver Police Department spokeswoman. The suspect was identified early Friday evening as 42-year-old John Thomas Clark, wanted for failure to appear for sentencing for sex assault on a child.Police, citing the early stage of the investigation, did not say how many shots were fired, or how many officers fired. No injuries to officers were reported. An officer responding to the shooting scene with lights and sirens got into a two-car accident on I-70 at Central Park Boulevard, police said.
