One woman was killed and a second woman wounded Tuesday night near the intersection of 16th and Valentia streets in East Denver, one block north of Colfax Avenue.
Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said police got a report of shots fired about 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived they found a woman lying in the street. She was later declared dead at a hospital.
The second woman was found wounded about a block away. She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened in the area north of 8300 East Colfax Avenue.
No information was given on possible suspects, although Jackson said police were investigating a vehicle with a possible link to the incident.
Jackson said police did not know if the incident was related to a report of shots fired further east in Aurora earlier in the night.
“Obviously, if there is a connection we’ll look into it,” he said. “But we can’t say that yet.”
Police said to expect delays in the area during the investigation. Valentia Street was closed from Colfax to 17th Street.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots.
