As some of the greatest Colorado Rockies of all time made their way around the Coors Field warning track during a pregame photo sessions with fans and media, Garrett Atkins watched from a luxury suite.

He had to be wondering how things could have been different for him in terms of his place in Rockies history if he’d been a catcher, for instance, and not a third baseman.

The Rockies’ wonderful recent 25th anniversary celebration featured a mixture of alumni and players who were selected in fan voting as the team’s all-time best 25-man roster. It was a blast for all those players who attended, including Ellis Burks, Larry Walker, Todd Helton, Jeff Francis, Aaron Cook and many more. It was great for Atkins, who still lives in the Denver area. All enjoyed their time reminiscing and reliving some of the best days of their lives.

“To be able to bring my kids out here and go on the field, throw grounders, play catch is something they couldn’t do when I played because they (the kids) didn’t exist yet,” Atkins joked. “It’s a great event to bring the family out and show them that yes, dad used to be able to play baseball a little bit.”

As for the 25th anniversary all-time team, the Rockies decided not to simply pick the best 25 Rockies players overall, but rather make sure each position was represented. That’s a much more difficult grouping to piece together.
