The Atlanta Hawks embark on a six-game west coast trip starting Wednesday night with a match up against the Denver Nuggets.
A six-game western road trip gets underway for the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night in Denver when they square off against the Nuggets. Atlanta has already clinched a playoff spot and has its eye on locking up home court advantage in the Eastern Conference. The Nuggets recently fired head coach Brian Shaw and are playing out the string of what in many respects has developed into a lost season.
Atlanta saw a six-game winning streak come to an end last Saturday with a loss in Philadelphia but the Hawks bounced back in a big way with a 130-105 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday. Atlanta put on an offensive clinic knocking down 20 three-pointers and piling up an NBA season-high 42 assists.

DeMarre Carroll and Kyle Korver led the way against the Kings with 20 points each. Neither played in the Saturday’s loss at Philadelphia and it was a welcomed return to form for Korver who had struggled since the All-Star break. He looked rejuvenated and refreshed against the Kings knocking down 6-8 three-point attempts and finishing 7-9 overall from the field.
Atlanta defeated Denver in the first meeting between the two clubs winning 94-86 at Philips Arena back in early December. Paul Millsap’s 23 points led the way for the Hawks and helped offset a 29-point effort from the Nuggets’ Wilson Chandler.
This is a different looking Denver now with interim head coach Melvin Hunt replacing Shaw. The Nuggets have gone 3-2 under Hunt and look to be engaged again after essentially quitting on Shaw. Winning in Denver hasn’t been easy for Atlanta who have lost seven-straight and nine of their last 10 in the mile-high city. Getting them to start the road trip could work in Atlanta’s favor as they look to get the road trip off to a good start.
