Jessie Hernandez (Handout)The autopsy performed on Jessica Hernandez says the 17-year-old was shot three times by Denver police officers who reported that she was driving a stolen car at them.The autopsy report’s descriptions of bullet entry points and trajectories indicate the officer whose bullets struck Hernandez was standing outside the driver’s side door. Two bullet wounds entered her left chest and traveled from left to right. One entered the left side of her pelvis, and then traveled to her right thigh, according to the report released Friday by the City of Denver’s Office of the Medical Examiner. The autopsy, performed by Chief Medical Examiner James L. Caruso, also revealed that Hernandez had a blood-alcohol content of 0.047, a bit more than half the legal limit for an adult. The report also said she tested positive for cannabinoids.Hernandez was shot and killed by Denver police on Jan. 26, after officers said she drove a stolen car towards them in an alley in a Park Hill neighborhood.Two officers were at the scene, and both fired their weapons, according to previous reports by Chief Robert White. It is unknown where each officer was standing when firing at the car.Hernandez’s case was one of four times in seven months that Denver officers fired at moving vehicles, hitting suspects. Independent Monitor Nick Mitchell has said his office will evaluate the police department’s policy, procedures and training on how officers respond to moving cars.The teen’s shooting has led to multiple police protests in Denver.Hernandez’s family and the Colorado Latino Forum said they support the monitor’s decision to investigate the department’s handling of threats from moving vehicles.
