A person was killed Thursday afternoon after being hit by an RTD light rail train in downtown Denver.The accident happened near 14th and California streets, a little before 3:45 p.m.Police reported “significant road closures” in the area of the Colorado Convention Center and alternate routes are advised.Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said that witnesses called 911, reporting that a person was being dragged under the train.He said the victim was believed to be male, but police are not sure where and when he was struck. Jackson confirmed that RTD had reported a man playing near tracks before the accident, but police are not sure if it’s same person.The passengers have been taken off train and are being interviewed by police. Investigators are also looking at cameras and interviewing passers by.”At this point all we know is that there’s a deceased individual under the train…our goal is to determine exactly what happened,” Jackson said.Denver firefighters were extracting the body from beneath the train.RTD reported that the D, F and H trains had all been detoured to Union Station. A shuttle is being used between 18th and Stout and 30th and Downing.This is a developing story and will be updated.
