MaryJNews, US – President Barack Obama made statements during the 2015 State of the Union address that may have signaled the upcoming legalization of Medical Marijuana as a Legal and legitimate form of medicine. During the Obama administration marijuana in the mainstream has gained more ground than expected or imagined. Now, with his term coming to an end, the finalization of legal medical marijuana on a federal level may be coming to fruition.

Making no direct statements using Cannabis, Marijuana, THC, or Cannabidiol Oils (CBD), the president did briefly discuss the future of medicine.

21st century businesses will rely on American science and technology, research and development. I want the country that eliminated polio and mapped the human genome to lead a new era of medicine: one that delivers the right treatment at the right time.

In some patients with cystic fibrosis, this approach has reversed a disease once thought unstoppable. Tonight, I’m launching a new Precision Medicine Initiative to bring us closer to curing diseases like cancer and diabetes and to give all of us access to the personalized information we need to keep ourselves and our families healthier.” – President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address

There has been no greater high profile figure that has done more for medical marijuana, doing so without showing support publicly. Acknowledging the new jobs created by new industries was mentioned. One of the fastest growing industries in the United States is cannabis related jobs. This ranges from production, sales, store workers, independent growers through the large scale cultivation of industrial hemp.

Since 2010, America has put more people back to work than Europe, Japan, and all advanced economies combined.

Our manufacturers have added almost 800,000 new jobs. Some of our bedrock sectors, like our auto industry, are booming. But there are also millions of Americans who work in jobs that didn’t even exist 10 or 20 years ago: jobs at companies like Google, and eBay, and Tesla.

So no one knows for certain which industries will generate the jobs of the future. But we do know we want them here in America.” – President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address

Hemp & marijuana production is turning into the next big cash crop, providing thousands of new jobs included in that number along with thousands more on the way.

Lastly, the only crimes committed typically by marijuana users is the actual use. The overwhelming majority of what is considered a crime is the actual sale, possession, and distribution of pot for medical and recreational use. Since legalization of marijuana or the de-criminalization in several states, drug-related crime is down those states that have legalized some uses of marijuana. This was predicted to happen when you lift an industry out of the black market, regulate it, and tax it. As President Obama stated, the numbers support it.

And surely we can agree it’s a good thing that for the first time in 40 years, the crime rate and the incarceration rate have come down together, and use that as a starting point for Democrats and Republicans, community leaders and law enforcement, to reform America’s criminal justice system so that it protects and serves all of us.” – President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address

However, marijuana is still illegal on a federal level. This means no lawful marijuana businesses can use normal banks, no scientific research can legally conduct studies. It also means that anyone using marijuana for one of the several conditions that this is prescribed for along with the millions that use recreational marijuana for leisure purposes is considered a criminal.

With the read between the lines statements in the President’s speech, along with his apparent behind the scenes support, it may not be long before the dream of legalized marijuana is distributed through Federal Dispensaries.

We can do this.

A brighter future is ours to write.

Let’s begin this new chapter together, and let’s start the work right now.

Thank you. God bless you.” – President Barack Obama
