Rash of power outages hit Denver metro area Tuesday night – The Denver Post
Multiple power outages across the Denver metro area on Tuesday night left more than 1,000 customers without electric service.
The biggest cluster was in the southeast Denver area, where there were 59 outages impacting 1,658 customers at about 10 p.m., according to the Xcel Energy electric outage map.
Another cluster, in the Elyria-Swansea neighborhood of Denver, impacted 92 customers. Power there was not expected to be back up until 3 a.m. Tuesday. An outage in City Park West had 110 customers without power.
At about 10 p.m. in Denver the temperature was still in the upper 70s.
The outages are “heat related,” said Michelle Aguayo, an Xcel spokeswoman. Increased demand because of air conditioning during daytime heat, combined with increased general usage — lights, television, computers — when customers get home from work lead to widespread transformer overloads.
